BPI Building Analyst Training and Certification courses offer individuals, businesses and groups the opportunity to take their career to the next level by becoming Certified BPI Building Analysts. The BPI Building Analyst Certification is the flagship BPI Certification, qualifying certified professionals to perform comprehensive, whole-house energy audits and installation of energy saving home performance upgrades.
BPI Building Analysts are trained to identify residential problems such as gas and carbon monoxide leaks and other combustion safety issues, indoor air quality problems, and to improve energy efficiency, durability, and other building performance measures.
The Building Analyst course covers the fundamentals of building science and energy efficiency through technical instruction and real-life, hands-on problem solving. Issues addressed include airflow and indoor air quality, moisture regulation, lighting and appliance efficiency, combustion safety testing & more.
The Building Analyst course is a one week program that provides both classroom and hands-on training. Three full days are spent in the classroom and one day is split between the classroom and field training in a residence demonstrating the guiding performance analysis, the final day is spent with a review of the previous four days in the morning and in the afternoon the computer-administered written BPI analyses test is available in preparation for an in-home field test to gain the nationally recognized BPI analyst certification at a later date. The course includes a Energy Auditor Field Guide that will be provided at the training. A book that is highly recommended as reading material before, during and after is “Residential Energy” from John Krigger.
The testing components are optional for participants who prefer to complete only the coursework section. Prerequisites include familiarity with the terminology and operations of building sciences, equipment and energy use.
